How It Works
The device consists of a normally closed (NC) contact mechanism operated by a mushroom-head push button, housed within a flameproof enclosure.
During normal operation, the contacts remain closed, allowing power or control signals to pass. When the button is pressed in an emergency, the internal mechanism forces the contacts to open, immediately cutting off power or stopping the machine. This action may create a spark or arc inside the switch; however, the flameproof enclosure contains any ignition, and the flame paths cool escaping gases so that the surrounding hazardous atmosphere remains safe.
The button typically latches in the pressed position and requires manual reset by twisting or pulling, ensuring the equipment does not restart unintentionally.
