Product Details:

“SAIEX” Flameproof Rotary Switch is a manual electrical switching device enclosed in a flameproof (explosion-proof) housing, designed for operation in hazardous areas where flammable gases or vapors may be present.

It allows an operator to select, isolate, or change electrical circuits by rotating a knob or handle, while ensuring that any sparks, arcs, or internal explosions generated during switching cannot ignite the surrounding atmosphere.

“Flameproof” means the enclosure can withstand an internal explosion and prevent flame transmission outside—not that it is fire-resistant.

How It Works

• Heavy-duty metal enclosure (die-cast aluminum or stainless steel)
• Precisely machined flame paths at joints and cover interfaces
• Rotary operating mechanism (knob or handle)
• Internal rotary cam and fixed contacts
• Explosion-proof cable entries (Ex d glands)

Operating Principle

1. Electrical supply is connected to the internal contacts inside the enclosure.
2. The operator rotates the external knob or handle.
3. The rotary motion actuates the internal cam mechanism.
4. Contacts open or close to:
   • Select circuits
   • Change over loads
   • Isolate power
5. During switching, small arcs or sparks may occur at the contacts.
6. Any ignition or explosion inside the switch:
   • Is fully contained by the flameproof enclosure
   • Escaping gases are cooled through flame paths
   • The external hazardous atmosphere remains safe
