“SAIEX” Flameproof Star-Delta Control Station is an electrical control device enclosed in a flameproof (explosion-proof) housing, designed for use in hazardous areas where flammable gases, vapors, or dust may be present.

It is used to start three-phase induction motors in a star-delta configuration, which reduces the starting current and mechanical stress on the motor. The flameproof enclosure ensures that any internal sparks, arcs, or electrical faults are contained safely and cannot ignite the surrounding explosive atmosphere.

How It Works

The station houses start/stop push buttons, selector switches, contactors for star and delta connections, timer relays, overload relays, and indicator lamps inside a robust flameproof enclosure.

1. Electrical power enters the station via Ex d cable glands.
2. When the START button is pressed, the motor is initially connected in star configuration to reduce starting current.
3. After a preset time, a timer relay switches the motor to delta configuration, allowing full voltage operation.
4. Pressing the STOP button de-energizes all contactors, stopping the motor immediately.
5. The overload relay protects the motor from excessive current.
6. Any arcs or sparks that occur during switching are contained inside the flameproof enclosure, and the flame paths cool escaping gases, keeping the surrounding atmosphere safe.

The station may also include indicator lamps to show star, delta, motor running, or fault conditions.
