“SAIEX” Flameproof Thermocouple Head is a protective enclosure used with a thermocouple sensor, designed to contain and prevent the ignition of surrounding flammable gases or vapors if a spark or high temperature occurs inside the head.

A thermocouple head is the housing mounted at the cold (reference) junction of a thermocouple where:

  • Thermocouple wires terminate
  • Terminal blocks or transmitters are installed

A flameproof thermocouple head is specially designed so that:

  • Any internal explosion (spark, arc, hot surface) is contained inside the enclosure
  • Hot gases escaping through joints cool down before reaching the outside
  • The surrounding hazardous atmosphere is not ignited

“Flameproof” does not mean fire-resistant—it means explosion containment.

Working Principle

  1. Thermocouple generates a small voltage due to temperature difference.
  2. This signal reaches the terminals/transmitter inside the head.
  3. If a fault causes: Spark, Short circuit, Overheating
  4. Any explosion inside the head: Is contained, Escaping gases lose temperature through flame paths, External flammable gas is not ignited
